Context
The fitness tech space is crowded, yet many apps feel one-size-fits-all. I set out to build a solution that would feel more personal, more motivating, and more community-driven especially for users struggling to stick with their routines.
As the sole designer, I had to juggle creating a flexible, intuitive experience while also working fast, bringing structure and clarity to every decision I made.

Problem
My early research (from app reviews and user forums) showed a pattern: people either felt lost in complex features or bored by generic routines.

There was a clear gap: users needed a personal, intuitive, and socially engaging platform to help them set and actually stay on track with their fitness goals.

Success for Trakk would be evaluated through improvements in usability, early user alignment, and product readiness for implementation. As this was a solo-led design sprint under tight timelines, the focus was on building a strong, validated foundation rather than tracking deep metrics post-launch.

Discovery & UX Audit
To build the foundation, I conducted secondary research and reviewed 10+ top fitness apps to identify what worked and what didn’t. I also built out two core personas and empathy maps that helped shape every feature:

I ideated across different flows for goal-setting, progress visualization, and social challenges. Using the Double Diamond process, I rapidly iterated low-fidelity wireframes and moved into high-fidelity UI once flows were validated. My core UX choices included

Reflection
Trakk taught me how to balance function and focus. Designing for such a broad range of users from busy executives, to active fitness enthusiasts meant constantly asking: “What’s the one thing they need right now?”
